October 2024
Burlat & Vega present in the catalog "Arquia/Proxima - IXe edition"
Curated by Marina Otero Verzier, this edition of the arquia/próxima Festival proposes to mobilize desire. Desire as a driver of change. Ecosocial, economic and political transformations, and the possibility of a future, are linked to desire. This desire is not a simple longing for individualistic consumerism, but a creative, collective and social energy, rooted in the awareness that change towards other ways of life is necessary and possible.
As philosopher Luce Irigaray reminds us, desire is a transformative force that can help us overcome oppressive social and cultural structures that limit our ability to live full and authentic lives. According to Irigaray, desire is not simply a sexual or materialistic impulse, but a deep and complex motivation that is rooted in our relationships with ourselves, with others and with the world around us.
Marina Otero Verzier proposes that architecture can also offer a relevant perspective on how to free desire from market ambitions and build relational complexes in tune with current challenges.
The arquia/próxima 2024 Festival, which will take place on October 24 and 25 at the Arquia Space in Madrid, invokes these subversive and desiring architectures. It will be a public meeting between the authors of the selected works and the jury. In addition, the arquia/próxima awards and mentions will be announced on those dates.
